Hi!!
For my newest assignment my teacher asked me and my peers to create a video under 30 seconds that showcases our new and improved editing skills. At first, I was thrilled with the idea of being my own personal director and creating my vision of a work of art. To be quite honest with you guys... I didn't exactly manage my time accordingly nor did I fully understand how much time and patience goes into producing a film. Even if it's just 30 seconds! As you dive deeper into this blog, you’ll somewhat be brought along the journey of me making this short film. (I say somewhat because you guys REALLY don't understand how LONG this took).
When the assignment was first presented to me, I envisioned me recording my sister getting ready in short takes with the addition of other shots such as: action match, jump cut, and eyeline match. With these shots brought together into one, the film would've truly been elevated to another level. However, that's not exactly what played out. My sister was unusually busy that week (her way of implying she has no intentions of recording with me) forcing me to record on my own. After many trials and errors, I came to the conclusion that I would not be able to create a good film without an actor. All the stress was starting to pile up on top of me when suddenly I had the best idea yet...
Drum roll for me pleaseeeeee. I quickly ran to my brother's room and asked for his help, and he said YES! Lucky for me, I was able to convince him with 30 min left before the assignment was due. The best/easiest film idea that came to mind was a horror film. To fully incorporate the elements of a horror film I knew my production and “studio” design (my homes hallway) were going to be key elements. Off the top of my head I knew that dark colors and lightning were really going to create the spooky ambience for this film.
Moving along to the process of creating the film. I incorporated many short takes to create a sense of suspension within the scenes. Additionally, since I knew the film wouldn't be so great due to the lack of time I had, I knew the editing would play a huge factor. As soon as I gathered the necessary shots I ran to my room and used “Cap cut” to begin editing the videos. I screen recorded spooky sounds on YouTube and merged it to the final product. Lastly, I used the editing app on my personal phone to lower the lighting in the video, furthermore, emphasizing that it's a horror film.
Although the video didn't come out the best, I wouldn't say it's the worst I've seen considering the fact that I only had 30 min. For future reference I would manage my time more accordingly to avoid the pressure of time.
Bye guys, see you next blog (or not)!! (Just kidding)
